Social media has become a staple of marketing for businesses in today’s day and age. Many of these companies see social media as a competition to accumulate the most followers, likes, or subscribes. However to follow this logic is to miss the entire goal social media. It is not the quantity of people, but rather the quality. Creating a relationship, a conversation, is what social media is all about. Here are three ways to start building yours:
Don’t be fake
1. Networking is always important when it’s real, and it’s a useless distraction when it’s fake. To take advantage of the great benefits social media has to offer, you must use it to discuss real ideas, and truly participate in the conversation.
Allow followers to express themselves
2. As soon as you begin censoring your audience, they will be reluctant to join the conversation in the future. Let your follower’s voices be heard, and reply in a positive way that lets them know how authentic you really are.
Find your target customers
3. Having a ton of followers is great, but which ones are really going to bring business to your company? Find them, and then engage them. Create conversations with them and between them. This is where social media is worth the work.
